John Telfer Ltd Blacksmiths and Engineers provide high quality fencing, gates, railings and ramps throughout Edinburgh, Lothian, the Scottish Borders and the UK.
Our skilled workforce, fast response time and commitment to engineering of the highest quality have made us the natural choice for public sector and private organisations, architects and construction companies and residential customers. We are specialists in custom-designed balustrades, chain link and security fencing, stairs and metal railings of all types, driveway gates, disabled ramps and fire escapes. Whatever you are looking for, we can design and produce it to the highest standard, from purely functional pieces to elaborate, ornamental work.
When William Telfer first established his blacksmith’s towards the end of the 1800s, it was run from a small workshop in Hawick in the Scottish Borders.
Today we’re still based in the area, but things have clearly moved on since 1872! We now benefit from the latest blacksmithing technology and have a modern, purpose-built workshop. It is from here that we create our high quality iron products, and train our craftspeople of the future.
We’re a family run firm doing everything on site ourselves, so that we can rigorously control the quality of all our metalwork.
We’re just as keen to invest in people, and insist on full CSCS registration for all our workforce. Because, while the technology may have moved on, our values are the same as they were nearly a century and a half ago.
